Who is F. M. Alexander?
Bio for Sharon Jakubecy
I began studying the Alexander Technique (AT) 12 years ago because it relieved chronic and debilitating pain in my hip. However, I decided to become an Alexander Technique teacher when I recognized that I had become much calmer and better able to deal with a very stressful job teaching children with autism.
During my career as an AT teacher, I have witnessed hundreds of students come in for a lesson slouched, stiff, miserable and in pain. After a lesson, which is about an hour long, students feel light, calm, and are smiling. Alexander lessons help people to recognize how they hold their breath and tighten their musculature, pulling down on the whole structure, when they are stressed, anxious and worried. As a teacher, I offer instruction on how to release these tension patterns, let their body move with their breath and release to a more balanced and aligned homeostasis. This calms the nervous system, their mood changes, and they don't have pain.
I am an AmSAT (American Society for the Alexander Technique) board certified teacher since 2003. I have helped writers, doctors, teachers, singers, actors, cellists, and business executives achieve peak performance. I am also on the faculty at Stella Adler Studio, American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and X Repertory Theatre Company in Los Angeles. The LA Opera, Women in Theater, The Dating Coach, Vox Humana, Unknown Theater, and Children's Hospital have sought me to teach workshops for their organizations.
